7th Sunday of Easter, 2006, 5/28/2006 -"The Jesus Prayer", Dr. John W. Miller
One of the very last things that Jesus does with and for his disciples before his arrest, betrayal, and crucifixion is to pray for them - for us. He prays that they might all be one so that the world would believe in God through their witness. What would Jesus think if he returned today and witnessed the "oneness" of His Church?
Youth Sunday 2006, 4/23/2006 -"Grace: God's Gift", Jordan Hofeditz and Camille Sale, NPPC Youth
John Newton's life illustrated the grace of God, of which he wrote in the hymn, Amazing Grace. His epitath says it all. "John Newton, once an infidel and libertine, a servant of slaves in Africa, was, by the rich mercy of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, preserved, restored, pardoned and appointed to preach the faith he had long labored to destroy". In all of our situations, God can still love us and guide us to make better decisions.
FaithSpeak 2006, 2/26/2006 -"Faith and Doubt: Thomas and Us", Dr. John McCoy
Faith is the opposite of doubt, or so it seems. But the play between faith and doubt is more complex. Thomas was an individual in whom the currents of faith and doubt flowed in a strange and persistant admixture. Part of the journey of authentic faith is doubt. Who never doubted never hath believed. This story is the echo of millions of Christian lives, where doubt and faith struggle together as part of God's engagement with us mortals. It is the saga of God taking up into his own life our struggle and our questions and our fears, our wonder and our doubt. Our life is looking through a glass, darkly. But each day in our journey, if we can hear the gospel, He is beckoning to us to come, see, touch, get close. Such is the Christian pilgrimage until that blessed moment when He comes to us face to face, my Lord and my God.
