Meals on Wheels
Meals on Wheels provides hot meals and if needed, box lunches for the weekend to frail, elderly and disabled individuals in order to maintain good nutrition that promotes independence and improved health. The Meals on Wheels program of the VNA delivers approximately 97% of the home-delivered meals in Dallas County. Kosher meals are provided by Jewish Family Services. For many of the elderly and disabled shut-ins the contact they have with the volunteers delivering meals is their only social contact. The Meals on Wheels program serves not only nutritional needs and provides a way for elderly and disabled to stay in their homes, it also provides that much needed human contact.
Volunteer opportunities: Food delivery volunteers, Monday – Friday. Advocates to check on shut-ins to insure their needs, other than nutritional, are being met.
