
Interfaith Housing Coalition was founded in 1985 by two churches to provide transitional housing and support services to homeless families. The Interfaith Housing program has evolved to provide a holistic approach which addresses the root issues of generational poverty and homelessness helping families transform their lives through systemic, enduring change. Interfaith provides housing, food and clothing to homeless families, as well as, guidance in employment, budgeting and life skills.
Volunteer opportunities:
Employment Mentors: Working in teams of two volunteers, meet weekly with residents, building a relationship and advising them in securing and retaining employment, interview skills, and "soft" employment skills. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday evenings from 7-9pm.
Budgeting Mentors: Working in teams of two volunteers, meet weekly with residents, building a relationship and assisting in developing and adhering to a family budget, debt reduction and monitoring savings and expenditures with the ultimate goal of the resident establishing savings sufficient to fund housing upon completion of the program. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday evenings from 7-9pm.
Children’s Volunteers: Help develop the children's character, optimism, self worth and resilience through fun activities such as jumping rope while learning multiplication, knitting to calm the children and assist in brain development, or expressing inner feelings through weaving tapestries as a group. After School (M-F) Weekday Evenings (T, W, TR) or Summer Days.
