What am I thankful for? - Elena Jeffus

Posted by Chris.Arends on November 5, 2020

As we continue our series on thankfulness, Elena Jeffus who has been a member of NorthPark for 18 years shares what she is thankful for..

Philippians 4:6

Do not be anxious about anything but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God

When I am anxious about work because so many days I am faced with unpleasant news or abrupt changes, I am thankful for the essential workers who show up every day, even when they are afraid, and I ask God to be with them in their care of the people in our charge.

When I am anxious about my children’s education because the learning environment is unrecognizable and they are struggling, I am thankful for the perseverance of the teachers who are trying to help all their students succeed, and I ask God to give the youth and educators the strength to continue when they want to give up.

When I am anxious about getting sick, I am thankful for PPE, soap, and science and ask God to be with those trying to develop a vaccine.

When I am anxious about my mental health, I am thankful for therapists who have embraced technology so we can meet virtually, and I ask God to help me to remember to breathe.

When I am anxious because I do not know when I will see my extended family again, I am thankful for FaceTime, and I ask God for patience while I wait for the day I can hug them again.

When I am anxious about caving to old vices because sometimes the pressure is just too much, I am thankful for recovery programs filled with the support of strangers who know we cannot do this alone, and I ask God for the strength to live one day at a time.

When I am anxious because my family is on each other’s last nerve, I am thankful for the time spent getting reacquainted, and I ask God that we come out the other side of this a more solid unit than before.

When I am anxious because I am unable to keep commitments, I am thankful for a church family that gives me so much grace, and I ask God to continue to give the NorthPark staff, leaders, and members the wisdom, strength, care and love they never fail to show over and over again.
