I’ve been a member of NorthPark Presbyterian Church since the mid-1990s and have volunteered and participated in several groups (Singles, Vision) and Communications Committee. I started teaching when my son (Sam) started Sunday school. For the past nine years or so, I have taught all grade levels and have enjoyed it immensely.
Teaching high schoolers was initially intimidating since they were so well versed in the Bible but I listened and learned so much from them. I’ve loved teaching all levels but have a soft spot for kindergarten to grade 2, which I’ve been teaching most recently. They are so sweet and funny. It’s been wonderful to watch the children I’ve taught grow into teenagers, then take off to college.
It’s been rewarding to be a small part of these young members’ spiritual education. I’ve learned a lot about teaching, listening, and enjoyed the refresher on Bible stories! I’ve had the privileged of meeting so many fantastic young people and their parents.
I highly recommend taking a leap of faith to teach Children’s Sunday school or youth. It’s so rewarding!
