Advent Week Two

Today's Advent Devotional, on Psalm 85:8, is written by Jean Wood.

Together with her husband, Harry, Jean is a longtime member of NorthPark. In addition to volunteering regularly with Meals on Wheels, The Bridge Homeless Shelter, and the NorthPark bread ministry, Jean leads the church's Cancer Pillow Ministry and spearheads the regular delivery of handmade pillows to mastectomy patients at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas.

Psalm 85:8 "Let me hear what God the Lord will speak, for he will speak peace to his people, to his faithful, to those who turn to him in their hearts"

How we long for peace in our time and especially as we approach Christmas. We come to our Lord with expectancy and anticipation hoping for answers for our troubled world.

We forget that God has to speak through us; we are His instruments of love for His world. Our greatest gift to each other is listening for God's whispers and nudgings toward peace and goodwill to each other and our neighbors.

As we get caught up in the hustle-bustle of preparations and cooking, let's be still and listen for that still, small voice saying, "peace, good will to all."

As we roll the dough for the gingerbread boys, let's put love in each gift.

We pray for guidance and loving hearts to share His gift of Christ-like love.

Come, Lord Jesus.

This is lovely, Jean. May I take time during this busy season to, "Be still and know that 'he' is God." God who loved us so much that he sent his only son, Jesus, Emmanuel, God with us.
