Advent Week Two

Today's Advent Devotional, on 2 Peter 3:14, is written by Dr. David Haymes.

David is a longtime NorthPark member who along with wife, Cherry, created and leads the non-profit mission group Meds for Africa. You can read more of David's writings on his blog.

Therefore, beloved, while you are waiting for these things, strive to be found by him at peace.

Be at peace. Right! That is easier said than done.

Although Peter is referring to the end times, I think we can safely assume that we are to strive to be at peace at all times, especially during Advent. But how often do we stop to take God’s comfort in these busy overloaded anxiety ridden times?

A friend of mine once remarked that one attribute of the human condition is to default to the negative. Given a choice to "accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative" as the old song recommends we all too often default to the negative and eliminate the positive.

At this most hectic and yet most positive of seasons, if we remember the reason for the season, we should stop, take a deep breath and look upward to thank God that in all this chaos and uncertainty there is one positive we can and should cling to with all our hearts, and souls, and minds.

Jesus came to bring peace, if not immediately on earth, at least in our hearts if we stop and open ourselves to Him.
