12.19 Advent Devotional
Today's Advent Devotional, on Psalm 126, is written by Mary Claire Stewart.
Mary Claire is a sophomore at the University of Texas at Austin majoring in biology. She volunteers regularly with Young Life and has been a member of NorthPark since high school.
When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream.
Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then it was said among the nations, "The Lord has done great things for them."
The Lord has done great things for us, and we rejoiced.
Restore our fortunes, O Lord, like the watercourses in the Negeb.
May those who sow in tears reap with shouts of joy.
Those who go out weeping, bearing the seed for sowing, shall come home with shouts of joy, carrying their sheaves.
Shouts of joy and endless laughter – the two most blissful sounds on every Christmas morning.
What brings the joy and laughter are not the presents or trees or even the food, but the promise that is brought to us on Christmas morning. Advent is the season that reminds us of this coming promise brought in a babe.
The promise that never again will we battle sin or walk in darkness alone, but we can face this world walking alongside the most loyal companion and bravest solider: Jesus.
Psalm 126 reminds us that "the Lord has done great things for us," and yes indeed He has. Out of a precious love for His people, He gave us Jesus.
So today, face each moment and situation with hope and peace because He is coming my friends.
And that morning He comes is always a morning of shouts of joy and endless laughter.
