DALLAS FLUTE TO KENYA
The MEDSforAfrica crew has departed again for Kenya but on a different note this time. One of the travelers is Ann Moulding, currently taking advanced work in geology at University of Texas as Dallas. She had thoughts of taking live flute music on a medical missionary trip but hated to take the expensive instrument she uses when playing solos at NorthPark Presbyterian Church, 9555 N. Central Expressway, Dallas.
A member helped locate a loaner instrument. Dr. David Haymes and wife, Cherry, of Dallas, lead regular medical missions into Kenya. Also joining them will be Donna Zacharias whose father-in-law is the Rev. David Zacharias, Pastor Emeritus at NorthPark. Several allied groups including Saddleback Church in California are leaving at various times this month and meeting in Amsterdam prior to entering Kenya. Sister Frieda’s mission hospital in Kitale will serve as their headquarters near a large animal preserve.
“To work in Africa, you don’t need to be an experienced medic. You just gotta care”, says Cherry.
Will the borrowed flute amaze, terrify, bore or become a sensation in Kitale? That, admits Ann, remains to be seen. -M. Natho
